Meet regularly, every 2nd Tuesday at 12 noon and Thursday at 7.30 pm, for a virtual chat (with tea of course) to catch up, support each other and get through this time together! We will also schedule special guests to these group chats for extra support.
We also offer a 1:1 virtual call with one of our Patient Champions. We know that seeing a friendly face who understands what you are going through can be greatly beneficial.

But if you’re undergoing treatment for cancer, a chance to sit down to and from appointments can make a huge difference

Counselling with Cancer

counsellingwithcancer.co.uk

Claire believes ‘Cancer Changes Everything Forever’ and it is so important to look after yourself Mentally, Emotionally and Physically whether you are the patient, the family or the friend.

Main issues cancer patients have when they come to you:
There are so many reasons clients come to me who have been affected by cancer, some are trying to come to terms with their cancer or diagnosis, or family members are looking for ways of supporting their families or trying to cope with the tragic news, friends are coming to terms with the news and wonder what to say or do, patients feel like they have lost their identity and want to be who they are and not the C word and then of course there is bereavement. Some of my clients are young adults that have been through their teenage years watching their parent be unwell and having to grow up very quickly and then coming to terms with their loss. Cancer is such a destructive disease it leaves a huge ripple effect through their families and friends. Cancer really does affect everyone and everything around them

Drain Dollies

draindollies.co.uk

Before I went in for my surgery I searched high and low for surgical drain bags. I knew I was going to be discharged from hospital with these drains, how was I to manage? I knew I was going to have drains in for at least 12 days and didn't want to be house bound. Equally though I didn't want to get funny looks in the street or feel embarrassed.
Unfortunately hospitals do not readily give out things to contain the drains in for patients use and I saw ladies using plastic carrier bags and pillow cases. It is so inconvenient not having the use of your hands. There is no reason to be house bound after breast surgery by any means, these bags enable you to get out and about which will aid your recovery process. They also come in some really nice patterns and colours to give you that extra boost when your feeling lousy and not so good about yourself.

All of the retreats are built around four key elements – surfing, yoga, mindfulness, and specialist workshops. The BRIC Centre

briccentre.bbk.ac.uk

BRiC's research aims to reduce anxiety and depressive vulnerability in women with a breast cancer diagnosis and improve quality of life using evidence-based translational neuroscience research. It's main aim is to build resilience.
Resilience is the practice of adaptation, flexibility, and adjustment. When confronted with a life-threatening disease such as breast cancer, options become limited, priorities change, and we struggle to find our new 'normal'. Practicing resilience can help us endure the emotional roller coasters, and manage our emotions more efficiently. Resilience builds on neuroplasticity: the brain's ability to form new neural connections towards better mental and physical health.
