“I'm Adam, I’m 33 and am an Actor and Puppeteer by trade. Since graduating The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, I have been fortunate to tour the UK and the world in Theatre shows mainly aimed for families. I lived in London for 9 years after graduating but decided to make the move back to my Northern roots in 2021 and currently live in Selby, North Yorkshire.”

Last month Adam ran the Sheffield 10k in memory of his friend, Hatti. I asked Adam about how he met Hatti and why he decided to take on this challenge for Make 2nds Count.

“Myself and Hatti both went to the same drama school, on the Acting and Dance courses respectively, but it wasn't until we worked together in a restaurant in London where our paths properly collided. Being a performer, there are a lot of down times in between contracts, so you have to fill your time with other jobs. However, I have learnt over time (and many terrible jobs!) that even if the job isn't your main dream in life, it's the people who you work with that can make it.

We lost Hatti in September last year and I knew I wanted to do something to commemorate her one-year anniversary. She was always super fit and used running as a motivation throughout her treatment. So, I knew that a run would feel fitting. There were a few charities that were close to Hatti's heart and helped her and her family through her diagnosis and one of those was Make 2nds Count.

There are an abundance of amazing charities that support cancer and breast cancer patients, but one being specific to secondary breast cancer is absolutely vital as I have learnt that it can often be forgotten about. I went through a lot of stages of grief when Hatti passed away, one of them being anger. I was angry at the world that someone's life could be cut short at 29 and I was angry at the statistics of secondary breast cancer patients. It felt totally unfair. To combat this, we need for focus more attention on the smaller, more specific charities to help them thrive and inevitably make those statistics less shocking.”

Thank you so much to Adam for taking on this challenge and raising money for Make 2nds Count, we are sure Hatti would be so proud.
