Make 2nds Count Updated Announcement

29th November 2022

FINAL WoutStrapline 5

Make 2nds Count is concerned with recent misleading social media comments made by founder Lisa Fleming. The charity has gone to great lengths to protect her from what we feel have been conflicted decisions around her ongoing role in the charity.

Lisa and Euan Fleming chose to step down from the board in May 2022 however, a board seat remains open for the Founders in perpetuity. In October 2022, Lisa chose to resign from her paid advisor role with the charity. A statement was released outlining Lisa’s decision – here.

The Board would like to reassure the Secondary Breast Cancer community that OSCR, the body that regulates all charities in Scotland has been made aware of these changes. Furthermore, there are no investigations into the charity nor any into individuals involved in the charity.

The charity’s funding continues to be split across Education, Research and Support. In October, the board approved extending the PTA service for the third year. It has already supported over 155 patients and with three NHS nurses seconded to the programme costs over £80,000 per annum to run the service. In year three, the target is on average to serve 42 patients and deliver 1 educational event per month.

In December, the research committee will be announcing the results of the Open Call in partnership with the National Cancer Research Institute to award grants of up to £250K to one or more patient-centric secondary breast cancer studies.

The Board of Trustees and the Make 2nds Count team continue to be dedicated to carrying forward the vision of the founders of giving hope to those affected by this disease.
