Ed Hodges takes on challenge 4 challenge events to support Make 2nds Count

Ed Hodges is one of our amazing fundraisers and, this year, he will be undertaking a series of challenges for Make 2nds Count. He has recently completed 51 Fiver Triathlon in May and Endure 24 Reading in June. He is also tackling Ironman Copenhagen in August and planning to finish the year off with Westonbirt Christmas 10K. We think what he is doing is fantastic and we wanted to share his story.

Ed is a soon-to-be ex-teacher who loves to see how far he can push his body by competing in endurance events. He has been taking part in Triathlons for the last 6 years. In addition to his real-life racing, he is a member of an online cycling group - Team Vegan - and they cycle on a platform called Zwift. Their staple event is a Thursday Team Time Trial, where they are split into sub-teams.

Unfortunately, the wife of one of Ed’s teammates was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer 3 and a half years ago, after developing primary breast cancer and being given the all-clear 8 years earlier. In late 2022 the whole team decided that they would take on Endure24 to raise money for a charity, and they decided that Make 2nds Count would be their charity of choice as this was a cause close to their heart. Like many other people, Ed was unaware of secondary breast cancer until his friend's wife’s diagnosis. This highlighted to him the importance of raising awareness and supporting research into secondary breast cancer.

We are immensely grateful to Ed and we would like to thank him for his commitment this year to embrace these amazing challenges to help to raise awareness. We also wish him luck for the challenges still to come!
