When were you diagnosed with SBC?
I was diagnosed with SBC in November 2019 after a Primary diagnosis in May 2019.
How were you diagnosed with SBC?
I was due to have my DIEP Mastectomy and had a CT scan of my abdomen prior to surgery to check on nerves etc... The day before my surgery was planned my breath consultant rung and asked me to come into the hospital rather than go for my pre op meeting. He explained the scan had shown a met on my pelvic bone and that further scans were needed. Those scans showed mets on my pelvic bone and spine in two areas.
What has been your treatment Journey?
I had 8 rounds of Chemotherapy initially with my primary diagnosis, loosing my hair and coping quite well with the treatment. After my SBC diagnosis I am am currently on letrozole, denosumab and zoladex monthly injections. So far all my scans have been stable and scan in March showed NEAD which is fab. Next scan in June so 'scanaxiety' has set in.
What would have helped make your journey so far easier?
Having a network of other young mums (I am 35) that have SBC in my initial diagnosis to speak to would of been invaluable. I was lucky that I found Make 2nds Count and that has allowed me to find other mums. I think the kids have been my biggest concern but right now I feel calmer and more confident in dealing with the situation and living a 'normal life'.
